Is this normal development of motor skills or a sign of autism?
I always thought my 8 months old is being developed fairly well as most mom thought it was a bit advanced for her age, but now I wonder if there could be some form of autism. He spends a lot of time shaking hands and / or rotate the wrist and is always feeling textured surfaces or by flexing the fingers continuously. If a label on a toy, he is more interested in the toy label. I always thought this was cute, but now I wonder if it is an early sign of autism. He usually answers his name, but sometimes I would call several times and he does not respond - this happens more for me to test what you really need to call him. He has been babbling of at least 3 months and particlularly likes to say "da da da da" on several occasions. Otherwise, interacts well with people, especially his cousins who are about the same age. Am grapsing straw as an excess of mother I paranoid or valid concerns?
His son seems to be developing normally. I am a mother of 4 and have a diploma in Special Needs Education. The "red flags" are important for the note. Another red flag is if the child walks on his tiptoe consistently once it has learned to walk.
